A novel about a poor woman in the late 1700's. She travels from London to America as a servant. Its been quite awhile since I read it, but I remember it as a very good book. A different view of life in early America.

I haven't read it yet, but my friend Janet said she enjoyed it very much. Since I like historical novels, I'm really looking forward to it.

I really did not enjoy this book, which is not an adverse comment on the book as a piece of writing. It is, in fact, an example of the power of the written word to shock and horrify. The story it tells, of poverty and degradation, although fascinating in its own way because it's set in a different time and place, is sadly all too common, especially for someone like myself who spent a year working in the state correctional system and saw too many young people whose lives were hideously blighted by crime and poverty. Toward the end of May, I released the book at the Bowers Orthodontic Specialists in Bloomington, IL.
