This is the story of the lost childhood of the author whose mother suffered Munchausen by proxy. Her mother allowed her to be subjected to a battery of tests including operations in the pursuit of an illness that only existed in the mothers mind.

I am looking forward to reading this book, and now I don't have to wait...and wait...on the library copy. Thanks, Sara, for being willing to ship overseas! :) After I read this, I've promised it in trade so I can get a copy of Cold Mountain, which I suspect will take me awhile to slog through :).

I first saw this book in Target right after it was published and it looked like one of those trashy books that I would both love and be ashamed to read. But while my fascination with mentally ill mothers and their abuses of their children is odd, enjoying reading a book that describes abuse of this magnitude would have been too bizarre even for me. No, I did not enjoy reading this book. I still found it fascinating, but not pleasurable, any more than a gruesome accident scene is a pleasurable sight. The childhood Gregory endured and managed, incredibly, to heal from is the worst about which I have read, probably because it is described in the first person. Quite frankly, I am glad to pass this book on in a pre-arranged trade, because it is not a volume I want lingering on my shelf.

Received in the mail today; thanks for sharing! I am looking forward to it... if that's the right choice of words for a book on such a sad subject.

Found it on a desk. Will give it a read and pass it on. Looks like something my mom would read, though.
