After watching the film of the book a couple of years ago, I've been meaning to read the original - and I wasn't disappointed. This had me drawn in from the beginning. A lovely story, charting the ups and downs that you get in real life - no fairytale here. Seabiscuit was an amazing horse and such a great personality - all of which comes screaming out of every single page. I'm not a big race fan, but this brought every single race to life and it made me want to go out and have a good gallop on my own horse!! My only regret is reading the epilogue - what a downer!! Although you always have to have that sort of thing in a memoir such as this, I hated what became of the heroes I'd shared a week with. Sad and horrifying!! If I read this again, I'll be missing this bit out!!

The second time of reading this and it was as good as the first time. I love the author's style and the way that she can focus on the smallest of things, bringing it alive for the reader. There were lots of bits I had forgotten and yes, I did still read the sad, depressing bit at the end, despite saying I wouldn't. Well worth reading.
