Five year old Finn falls from the balcony of their new home, is rushed to hospital by helicopter and, following emergency surgery, is in ICU in an induced coma. It is clear to the reader from the outset that something is not quite right, that we are not hearing the true story of how Finn came to fall. Martha, his mother, is questioned by social services because there are some 'indicators' that he may have been abused. And so we wait to find out what happens 'after the fall'.
