I got this slim hardcover from an online seller, for the sake of the illustrations by Edward Gorey. The story itself features odd characters with whimsical behaviors - and a wee bit more of a moral than Gorey usually allowed himself, though his illustrations definitely enhance Levine's tale! Three sisters live by the sea in three houses side by side - and get along pretty well except for the fact that Alice spends much of her time sitting high up in a tree, and the other two aren't comfortable with that. (I was a tree-dweller in my youth; went up there to settle in and read, or just look at the sun through the leaves. Turns out Alice's reason is a bit different, though.)

I left this book in the Little Free Library; hope someone enjoys it!
