This near-future sci-fi is one of Stepehen Baxter's first books. It is amazingly prescient in some ways, but ultimately pessimistic about modern American society. You can read it and be glad things aren't *that* bad! Interesting if you like hard science fiction. But beware: it degenerates into sheer handwaving at the end.

I daresay this book did not survive Hurricane Katrina. That neighborhood flooded pretty severely. I don't even know if the fairGrinds is open again. I hope so. RIP, Titan.
