Ordered used from amazon to fill the gap in the series.

I see this is the second in the series and that I have read (and traded away) the first one.... To be fair, it has been over five years since I read the first, but I really don't remember it at all, simply that I enjoyed it.
Here too, I had a lovely Sunday yesterday, reading this between other things I had to do, but I suspect that unless I move on to the next very soon (which I am relieved to have in my TBR), I might be equally amnesic. Fortunately, this would actually work fine as a standalone, so my lack of memory did not in any way tarnish my pleasure. (I do hate it when you have the annoying itch of knowing there must be a back story and not having read it or not remembering what it was if you had).
There was a smidge of the trope I often find annoying in that neither the hero nor the heroine communicate clearly or openly, leading the other to think they are the only one with feelings... but I suppose that's typical human nature?
I appreciated the Charlie aspect of the story, and Tom was quite the hero in his somewhat clumsy way.
A very good read.
