I enjoyed this first book in the Cormorant Strike series by Galbraith, a.k.a. J. K. Rowling. It's not compelling in the same way as the Harry Potter series but it's a solid mystery all the same, with good characters.

A great mystery with good characters. The detective is typical in that he is down and out but uncharacteristically he faces it with determination rather than being self destructive. Enjoyed that the detective had aha moments without revealing the details to the reader. Look forward to more in this series.
