"I heard the owl call my name is the story of one man's discovery of the ultimate truths of life and love, courage and dignity, among the proud Indians of the Northwest. It is the story of a return to the fundamental truths of human existence in a village reomote from modern civilization - and a story that marks a return to the beauty, simplicity and inspirational power that is the hallmark of fiction at its finest. You will gain a whole new experience when you read this great bestselling novel."
This one was mentioned in Gung ho!and I wanted to read it.

Thanks for the placement ardachy, my sons and I loved the owl trail last year and they were very excited when we found a ‘traveling book’. I’m ashamed to say that the book ended up in a pile of things to do and got somewhat forgotten about amidst the chaos of family life with two little men. I rediscovered it last month and have just begun reading it. I’m planning on taking it on holiday next week to finish so it will hopefully find a new resting spot soon!
Just finished the final chapter and shed a few tears. I enjoyed the read and found the book both poignant and uplifting at the same time. I enjoyed the myths and descriptive storytelling about a simpler way of life and found that it was food for the soul.
I would definitely read more of Margaret Craven’s work.
“…it has always been easier here, where only the fundamentals count, to learn what every man must learn in this world.”
“And that, my lord?”
“Enough of the meaning of life to be ready to die”
