Review: On Death, Dying, and Disbelief (Candace R.M. Gorham) A tidy little primer on the grieving process for nontheists. I rarely read self-help style books because so often I find them insufferably repetitive. I can't say I loved this book, but that doesn't mean it couldn't be helpful to people in the grieving process, which thankfully I am not at the moment. I suspect I thought perhaps this might prove a useful book for my nontheist daughter (many years) down the road when I logically will die. But of course, she deals with the reality of death on a daily basis, as a hospice nurse, and most of the advice in this book is common sense and rational, which are the hallmarks of our lives. Ms. Gorham anchors her comments in her own grieving reality as well as in her experience as a mental health professional, so it all seems quite consistent and logical. She is given, in her style of creating the book, to offering tips and advice, but consistently adding a disclaimer, so sometimes it seems as though she is hedging her advice in case it doesn't fit everybody (which of course, logically, it won't), so I ended up feeling a bit let down by the repetitions and the hesitant language. Again, this is my experience with most books of this sort. So I don't think it is anything I particularly want to pass on to anybody....
