How my family created the world's most dangerous man
Blurb:
"Today, Donald is much as he was at three years old: incapable of growing, learning, or evolving, unable to regulate his emotions, moderate his responses, or take in and synthesize information.
Child abuse is, in some sense, a matter of 'too much' or 'not enough'. Donald's mother became ill when he was two and a half, suddenly depriving him of his main source of comfort and human contact. His father, Fred, became his only available parent. But Fred firmly believed that dealing with young children was not his duty, and he kept to his twelve-hours-a-day, six-days-a-week job at Trump Management, as if his children could look after themselves. From the beginning, Fred's self-interest skewed his priorities, and his care of his children reflected his own needs, not theirs. He could not empathize with Donald's plight, so his son's fears and longings went unsoothed. Love meant nothing to Fred; he expected obedience, that was all. Over time, Donald became afraid that asking for comfort or attention would provoke his father's anger or indifference when Donald was most vulnerable.
That Fred would become the primary source of Donald's solace when he was much more likely to be a source of fear or rejection put Donald into an intolerable position: total dependence on a care-giver who also caused him terror, Donald suffered deprivations that would scar him for life."

I was much disappointed by this book since I really expected something else.
It's a lot more about the whole business, money, the Trump management, buildings, estate and again money - and so little about personal psychological insights and personality. Also, after finishing, I feel this really is much more a personal statement on personal disappointments and hurt feelings - but it's not satisfying the expectations set when reading the title (at least I feel that way).
Disappointing...

Disappointing... hmm, we will see. I'm still interested and gonna read this book as soon as possible.
Fact ist, the book arrived at one of the most important days in the last four years - presidents election is running. Maybe this will also be one of the most disappointing days in our lives.
Thank you, Mary-T, for sharing with us!

I'm very sorry for retaining this book for such a long time. I tried to read it several times, but I failed. Always, when I start reading, the face of this incredibly dumb man emerged in my mental cinema and I was blocked. And for my mum is very sick, I didn't want to spent more of my valuable spare time reading this stuff.
At the least, I had some time to wrap it and sended it to the next reader - wildboarhunter. Sedna5213 has to much bookrings at home, so she doesn't want to have it. Thank you for sharing!

The book arrived today, thank you!
I found the book very interesting because it really provides enlightening insight into how a dysfunctional family works. In fact, it's terrifying and rather made me sad. Donald Trump is portrayed as an unscrupulous narcissist, but it also becomes clear that in some ways he found circumstances that encouraged this development.

I had to admit, that I agree with Mary-T... it's a bit dissapointing
At times the book seemed like an excuse for the inability, unredictability, the lies, racism, the image of women, etc.; of course Mary L. Trump cannot report objectively about this family, she is far too involved for that, and she harbors a powerful grudge against her family, who let her father die emotionlessly, humiliated her mother and tried to betray her and their brother and mother.
Only in the last chapter you'll find something about Donald Trump handling the Covid-19 and George Floyd crisis (in both cases he sucked)... the rest ist a vague family biography, wrote with the eyes of Donald Trumps niece Mary.
Will travel further when ImmerLesen is back from her vaccation.
