I bought this as part of a 3 for 2 deal at Borders on Charing Cross Road. It is a mystery/thriller set in Bosnia in the late 1990s - it sounds different to the usual crime books I like to read so I am giving it a try.
I bought this book because the subject matter was so intriguing to me... a murder mystery set in Bosnia. This turned out to be much more than that, it was an investigation by a man into the tormented past of his father and into the modern war atrocities that happened in the Balkans. This book was educational while also telling a story. My only problem with this novel was that I felt the pace was a little slow and for long stretches of time, the author did not really engage me. Still, it was a good book and I am glad I read it.
I am now going to send it on to librarie since I think she might like it. I will be interested to hear what she thinks!

Thanks LeighBCD for sending this to me. Judging by the book description and the people quoted on the cover (and your opinion!), I think I will like this very much.
It took me quite some time to get in to this book, as at the start I didn't feel that the central character (Vlado) came across well. Once I got halfway into the book, things started to pick up and the plot became quite complex. Once I'd finished it, I felt that perhaps the pace was correct as at the beginning the central character just has no idea what he has got himself into and is just looking for an escape from his mundane job in Berlin. I thought the plot was good, with the way past war crimes are tied to the present. I'll be looking out for other books by this author.
