When two English brothers take the helm of a Barbados sugar plantation, Washington Black - an eleven-year-old field slave - finds himself selected as personal servant to one of them. Beautifully written and it had me captured from the first page. Yes, it drags on a bit in the last part but I so wanted to know what had happened to Kit and Titch, that I just had to read on. The language was so beautifully crafted and a very engrossing novel.
