Also fascinating and heartbreaking were the stories from 9/11 and Hurricane Katrina and the lives that were lost in those seminal events. So much of life is in the little details and this is true even within the stories of larger tragedies.

The mission of Story Corps is to record the stories of ordinary people, to provide a historical record with details of everyday life in America. The stories included in this collection do just that. They address relationships and home life, the workplace, life journeys, and people's interaction with historic moments. And the nature of the conversations recorded for the project makes these stories both interesting and intimate, glimpses into people's private lives and thoughts. The stories are compelling and demonstrate our common humanity, reminding us of everything we have in common. But the most powerful stories in this collection are those related to the attacks on 11 September 2001 and Hurricane Katrina in 2005. These stories transported me back to those moments with the searing pain and loss that they capture. Those particular stories are reminders that behind the numbers that we use to convey the magnitude of the losses are individual stories that can never be conveyed by just looking at statistics.
Released 1 yr ago (2/6/2023 UTC) at John Carlyle Square Park in Alexandria, Virginia USA
