Would you stake your life on your marriage?
Newlyweds Jake and Alice are offered a mysterious wedding gift - membership of a club which promises its couples will never divorce.
Signing The Pact seems the start to a perfect marriage.
Until one of them breaks the rules.
The marriage of their dreams is about to become their worst nightmare.
Because The Pact is for life.
And its members will do anything to make sure no one leaves . . .

When newly weds Jake & Alice are invited to join "The Pact" they look on it as a way to ensure that their marriage will last. As with any "organization" there's rules to follow: for example
Buy your partner one thoughtful gift a month.
Take quarterly vacations with each other.
Don't snoop on your partner.
Never ignore the phone when they call.
Shouldn't be hard to keep to right? Guess again...
Of course "The Pact" turns out to be sinister in ways they couldn't imagine...& I'm not going to spoil it for other readers by letting on as to what punishments were meted out to transgressors. Let's just say, they're inventive & rather bizarre - cruel & nasty goes without saying!
For about 80% of the book I was totally gripped. The storyline is a great one, fast moving & with an uneasy undercurrent which increases steadily as the couple find themselves more & more entangled with "The Pact".
The only negative thing I have to say is I felt that as the final chapters headed to their inevitable conclusion, the pace slowed & I was a little disappointed with a rather trite ending to what had otherwise been an addictive but outlandish story.
Overall I found it a cracking read. Don't worry about it being credible, just buckle up & enjoy the unsettling ride that takes you into the insidious world of "The Pact"....
Memorable quote:
Marriage is a living changing thing you must tend to both alone and together. It grows in all sorts of ways both ordinary and unexpected......it is a living thing of contradictions - simultaneously predictable & baffling, good and bad - growing more complicated each day.

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:
Added to the "Mixed Fiction" Bookbox
Taken from the Mixed Fiction bookbox.....sounds intriguing!
I really enjoyed this book. I found it a real page turner and quite original. As I was reading it I though ooo Plum-Crazy might like this for her Birthday....only to realise it was you who put it in the box in the first place :).
Popping in the Already Crossed BookBox
Received on the return of the Already Crossed bookbox. This sounds intriguing but I am not sure whether I will read this or not.
Well, I thought I would try this one but sadly ....no! Too psychologically disturbing for me, this book repeatedly hit boundaries for me that I was not willing to breach.
I started it one night and then found myself sleepless and having waking nightmares for the rest of the night. I tried skimming it further the next day and everything I stopped at was disturbing for me, so I decided that this book would return to the wide world unfinished by me.
There is however a plan for his book.
