Arabella, daughter of a country vicar, goes to London to stay with her Godmother for a season. On the way she encounters the Nonpareil Beaumaris, and taking offence at his behaviour she pretends to be fabulously rich. This might be my very favourite of Heyer's regency novels, funny, charming and taking you straight into the period.

This is the first time I have encountered this idea and I think it's wonderful. I found this book waiting for me on a tree stump on a family walk in beautiful Ashridge in Hertfordshire UK. I haven't read it yet but will pass on when done. Thank you Greenbadger.
