Arrived safely at my place here in Regensburg yesterday. Thanks for the book and the lovely postcard! I´m looking forward reading it!
Happy Easter Holidays and I´ll check back when I finished "Post Office".

Finished this little novel last week and I liked it very much. It´s kind of a sequel to Ham on Rye (chronologically), although he wrote Post Office first.
It has a sort of autobiographical character and reflects the life of young Charles Bukowski in his 20s and 30s.
I tried to read a german tranlslation of one of his books once but it´s no comparison. Here´s an author you absolutely have to read in original language!
His writing is very pure and comes strait from the guts. There´s just no way of translating this properly. And to be quite honest I really like the language he uses, bare and stripped of any unnecessary pretentiousness as it is.

Another great Bukowski! Great description of his work in the sweat shop of the US postal service. I also like Bukowski/Chinaskis view of women and the way he handles his relationships... He really is a COOL DUDE! ;-)

Post Office by Charles Bukowski:
I work at a job I hate, I drink too much and I like fucking crazy women.
Goes to hank-chinaski (obvious!)

Came with the mail today! I already got the german translation on my TBR-Pile, which I can now read together with the american original. May have to wait a bit, though, 'cause I'm loaded with bookrings... Great THANX to mojitopt!
