This book is riveting. Geraldine Brooks' use of language transports the reader to a small village in 17th Century England (the Plague Village). The characters experience a wide range of human emotions as their village is quarantined from the rest of the country. Surprisingly, (at least to me) the book is not depressing. Brooks shows us the strength of the human spirit when confronted by horrific circumstances.
