The wonderful box-of-books arrived safely - thanks so much! This is a novel I hadn't heard of before; published in 1945, it's set in Barcelona after the Spanish Civil War, and is narrated by the orphaned Andrea. (This edition includes brief discussion guides in English, questions in Spanish, and an English/Spanish vocabulary section.) I see it inspired this 1947 film.
