This is a charming and comforting fairy tale, ideal for cosying up on the sofa with beverage and chocolate bar to hand. And no doubt it will be a hit with book groups and the Richard and Judy crowd. And whilst its a pleasant read, it is ultimately a little too nice for its own good. The writing is somewhat overdone, and although I like subtly linked stories and incidents in episodic novels, the coincidences in this were just too neat and rather contrived.
