March of Folly: From Troy to Vietnam

I've read almost all of Barbara Tuchman's works. Her tremendous command of the English language and subject matter combined with incredible story telling ability almost guarantee a great read. The aspect of this book that I find so compelling is how well it highlights the parallels of our present situation. Sadly, the March of Folly continues with successive administrations, in America and around the world. The section devoted to America's involvement in the Vietnam war provides new perspective for our involvement in Afghanistan. On the surface, I'm dismissed for making this analogy, but the intricacies of the political situation, the reaction of the North to failed US policy and strategy sound all too familiar when listening to the daily news. This, as well as Tuchman's other works, is a wonderful book about a subject in need of revival, history.
