Forty-two, and married for half her life, Jessie Sullivan honestly believes that she is happy. She has a lovely home, a dependable husband and an accomplished and adored teenage daughter. But when shocking news about her mother compels Jessie to visit the remote island of her childhood, Jessie finds herself drawn to Brother Thomas, a Benedictine monk on the verge of taking his final vows.
An emotional story with humorous and secretive parts, wonderfully written, yet I liked her first novel "The Secret Life of Bees" far better.

While it is a well written story this didn't have appeal, to me, that "The Secret Life of Bees" had. While I found the relationships between the various women interesting, I just didn't feel the same about Jessie & Thomas. The self-mutilation was an interesting "touch" (ouch!!) though!
