But this is 21st Century New York, and to get ahead and stay ahead, these women will do anything, including jeopardizing their personal and professional relationships. Take for example Nico, editor-in-chief of Bonfire magazine, who betrays her boss to rise to the top of the entire magazine division at media mega-giant Splatch-Verner. As president of Paradour Pictures, Wendy may be poised to win an Oscar for her 10-year labor-of-love, Ragged Pilgrims, but her marriage is in shambles and her children care more about a $50,000 pony than their mother. And for single, 43-year-old fashion designer Victory, pleasing tough critics may be more important than ever finding the real relationship she's convinced herself she doesn't need.

This racy tale of women behaving badly manages to shrewdly flip the tables to show us how gender roles are essentially interchangeable, given the right circumstances. Whether that was Bushnell's intent when crafting this wicked tale is another story. --Gisele Toueg}

Το βιβλίο αυτό αν και δεν είναι πολύ του γούστου μου, το διάβασα πριν πολλά χρόνια όταν δούλευα σε ένα ξενοδοχείο στην Πάλαιρο Αιτ/νιας, την δεκαετία του 2000. Για να βρω βιβλιοπωλείο με ενδιαφέρουσες επιλογές έπρεπε να πάω ως την Λευκάδα, πράγμα όχι τόσο απλό όσο ακούγεται όταν δουλεύει κανείς 16ωρα κάθε μέρα χωρίς ρεπό...
Οπότε διάβαζα ότι έπεφτε στα χέρια μου, είτε βιβλία που αφήναν στην βιβλιοθήκη του ξενοδοχείου οι πελάτες μας, είτε βιβλία που μου έκαναν δώρο παιδιά απο το υπόλοιπο προσωπικό, (κυρίως Άγγλοι).

Το συγκεκριμένο όπως και αρκετά άλλα, μάλλον μου το έδωσε στο τέλος της σεζόν μια φίλη απο το Brighton, χωρίς να είμαι απολύτως σίγουρη. Με ακολούθησε απο την Πάλαιρο στους Δελφούς και έμεινε στο ράφι μου αρκετά χρόνια, ίσως και δεκαετία. Βάζοντας σε μία σειρά τις βιβλιοθήκες μου, είδα ότι έχω και άλλο αντίτυπο σε διαφορετική έκδοση, οπότε νομίζω είναι καιρός να το αφήσω να συνεχίσει το ταξίδι του... Είναι ελαφρύ ανάγνωσμα, ότι πρέπει για παραλία ή για να περάσει κανείς την ώρα του μέσα στο τραίνο, ή για κάποια παρόμοια περίσταση και ελπίζω ο επόμενος κάτοχος να το ευχαριστηθεί.


I read this novel many years ago, when I was working in a Mark Warner resort in Paleros, Western Greece. It is not my usual genre, but books were hard to come at the particular time and place... Often I was just reading whatever book our holiday-makers would drop in the lobby's bookcase or whatever other staff members were happy to lend me or give me as a gift.
Although I am not absolutely sure, I think this specific book came to me through a friend from Brighton who could not carry all her books back home, so she gave me many books at the end of season. The book followed me from Paleros to Delphi and remained on one of my bookcases for what I guess is around a decade. Tidying up a bit my tons of books, I discovered I have one more, slightly different copy of the very same book, possibly originating from Paleros too.
So I think it is about time to release it and let it continue its journey.
It is a very light read, I guess chick-lit genre...It might be a good option as a beach read or for someone looking to pass some time on a train journey or similar. Thus, I will release soon and... HAPPY READING!

Διάβασε το βιβλίο, αν θέλεις, και μετά βοήθησέ το να συνεχίσει το ταξίδι του αφήνοντάς το κάπου (σε ένα παγκάκι, σε έναν τηλεφωνικό θάλαμο, στο προαύλιο του σχολείου, στο τραπεζάκι μιας καφετέριας, στην υποδοχή κάποιου ξενοδοχείου...κτλ) για να το βρει κάποιος όπως το βρήκες κι εσύ. Μπορείς ακόμη να το χαρίσεις σε κάποιον φίλο σου ή και να το κρατήσεις!
