I read this as I was ill and it was a thin book. It had some bits of interest, however an incredibly boring non descript end. It doesn't make me want to read anything else by this author. There were some bits of interest though, I learnt some things about the war in the sahara (or some other desert!) and it was readable enough.

Celia is a self opinionated lady who has had a varied life including time as a war correspondent in Egypt during the Second World War. She has a tempestuous on off relationship with the father of her daughter. The story is told from her viewpoint as she is in hospital bed waiting for her death. She says she is writing a history of the world(history books having been another part of her career). There is some history but mainly she tells of her life, with some episodes repeated from the viewpoint of another person who she has been reacting with. Some interesting twists.
