I have read another book by Keyes, and she tells a great story, with lots of New Orleans atmosphere and detail. She's very well known as a writer there, though she's been forgotten otherwise, it seems.

I mentioned that this is a great overview of New Orleans and its culture. It's also quite a relic of the "feminine mystique", when the role of women (especially "society women") was so strictly limited. Interesting to see the thinking of that time, since this author is completely comfortable with the class and gender divisions as they are. Such a good storyteller, though!
