Journal Entry 1 by Boojum from Saint Paul, Minnesota USA on Wednesday, June 26, 2002
From the book:
"From its brilliant opening chapter to its violent and explosive conclusion, Helen Zahavi's third novel is a tour-de-force of surreal, dark humour. Set in the lurid, hallucinatory atmosphere of London's criminal underworld, it introduces the Fatman, an enigmatic and sadistic gangleader and Donna, his nemesis."

Not what I was expecting from the cover at all. I was expecting a powerful, together protaganist (that's how you get to be a nemesis, right?). But instead Donna is just... Donna. It took me awhile to get used to the author's style and get into the book, but it was worth it. A real kicker of an ending!

Journal Entry 2 by Skeltzer from Utrecht, Utrecht Netherlands on Sunday, June 30, 2002
Found it today at the Koblenz station and took it home to Utrecht, the Netherlands. I plan to read it sometime in the coming week, and then I'll leave it in a suitable place...have yet to think of something. And I'll leave a note of what I think of the book on this website.

Journal Entry 4 by Skeltzer from Utrecht, Utrecht Netherlands on Sunday, July 7, 2002
Finished the book more or less in one sitting. It's brilliant if you can stomach random violence. I can't but the author masters the language, especially the dialogues extremely well, it's like you're in the middle of Pulp Fiction sometimes. And dialogues make up the most of the book. Don't read it if you think a book should end happily.
I second Boojum's objection to the term nemesis - Donna only just pulls it off.

I'll leave the book tomorrow (8 July 2002) in the international tickets office of the Utrecht train station, around lunchtime.
Have a pleasant journey, book. And greetings to you, next reader.

Skeltzer.
