I received this book from Betsy-STL yesterday and look forward to reading it. This book won the 1973 Newbery Medal.

I loved this book! To paraphrase from the back cover: Miyax (Julie) must face being lost and alone in the Alaskan wilderness. She is befriended by a pack of wolves and grows to love them as a family. Miyax struggles to survive, but she overcomes her struggle with the wolves' help and by practicing the things her father taught her. She comes to her own understanding of the traditional riches of Eskimo life: intelligence, fearlessness, and love.

Thanks so much for this surprise!! This will get me started reading the Newberry Medal books. I know I've already read several, but I'll start recording them on my bookshelf. I may have read this one, but eons ago so I look forward to reading it and seeing if I remember it at all. Thanks again, I was truly surprised!

I didn't really remember reading this one as a child. I'm sure I didn't get much out of it if I did. I was never a big fan of wilderness stories when I was younger. I did enjoy this book, thanks again for sending it to me!

I'm sending this on to a group of students when I fulfill some of my weight loss goals (http://www.bookingtolose.com).
