I really enjoyed this story from Guernsey. The characters were diverse and fairly well fleshed out and the story, although somewhat predictable was interesting and made you want to read on. I loved the way the story progressed through correspondence and how the author Juliet, got to know the island and the characters before she set foot on it.
A very nice first book by an elderly author who never got to see her work in print.
Taken to our mini meetup at Deli 1884. Lovely to meet you satay-spiess. Hope you had a pleasant trip home!

This sounds of a story with eccentric characters, what I like very much. Thank you very much for bringing this book meganh.
My trip home was long (21 hours in air, 1.5 days from "door to door"), but I'm home safe and sound, even though a bit tired. I enjoyed very much our mini meetup as well, thanks again for that. :-)

Oh, what a lovely book that was! Thank you very much meganh, that you gave it to me! It was one of the best books I read in 2016 so far! :-)
I liked all the characters very much, how the story develops and the nice atmosphere. The style somehow reminded me strongly of "Green Tomatoes" by Fannie Flag, another favourite of mine.
And - last but not least - the Channel Islands now are definitely on my list of places to visit in my life. :-)
I was not aware of the history of Guernsey during the 2nd World War.
