The girlfriend in the book's title falls into a coma for 17 years. Her boyfriend and her best friends effectively seem to fall into comas of their own - only theirs are not medical conditions. The book brought up an intriguing concept - that some of us are living as if we are in comas, waiting for Life to wake us up. I liked some of the 80s references, and I'm sure I would have enjoyed other cultural references if I had grown up in Vancouver, BC. Overall a decent read for a lazy afternoon.

Found, found, found!

I was interested in this book for 2 reasons: first, i've read (and enjoyed) Douglas Coupland before; and second, besides the title, there are said to be numerous lyrical references to one of my favourite bands, the Smiths. So--i found it on half.com, received it today (19 APR 04), and was thrilled to find that it's a bookcrossing book! This is my first catch ;) and i hope to read it soon.

This book is in transit to a friend in Madison, Wisconsin.

Sheila sent it to me from Ohio, and I am going to cast it adrift in the coffee shop.
