A great find at a charity 'yard sale' (I mean garage sale), from a great author...
(03/11/16) This is a fascinating glimpse of the closed Japanese society on the cusp of the C19th, and the strange floating trading base that the Dutch had in Nagasaki.
The story of forbidden love, politics and affairs of state and commerce is fascinating, but in my opinion secondary to the backdrop of an alien and largely unreported time and place.
