First there was Hatchet, Paulsen's classic tale of a boy's survival in the north woods after a plane crash. Then came a sequel, The River, and, last year, Father Water, Mother Woods, a collection of autobiographical essays introduced as the nonfiction counterpart to Hatchet. Now Paulsen backs up and asks readers to imagine that Brian, the hero, hadn't been rescued after all. His many fans will be only too glad to comply, revisiting Brian at the onset of a punishing Canadian winter. The pace never relents - the story begins, as it were, in the middle, with Brian already toughened up and his reflexes primed for crisis. Paulsen serves up one cliffhanger after another (a marauding bear, a charging elk), and always there are the supreme challenges of obtaining food and protection against the cold.

This arrived today for my planned mass release at the 2004 World Ice Art Championships in March! Thanks so much! =) I plan to do the releases throughout the month as the sculptures are completed. This is going to be fun! =)

Thanks for the surprise books Judy! I'll probably start releasing books tomorrow... canned food day at the ice park! =)

Journal Entry 7 by havfaith from Spokane, Washington USA on Thursday, March 11, 2004
Had to read this one before I let it go this weekend... =)
It was a good, quick read. Interesting seeing Brian learn to fend for himself in the wilderness. Loved the part about his pet skunk! I've never read The Hatchet so I'll have to see if the library has a copy... =)

Thanks for sending it Judy! It should be in the wild this weekend!

Journal Entry 8 by havfaith at Ice Park - World Ice Art Championships in Fairbanks, Alaska USA on Sunday, March 14, 2004
Released on Sunday, March 14, 2004 at Ice Park - World Ice Art Championships in Fairbanks, Alaska USA.

Left this afternoon before the multi-block awards and lighting... There was already quite a bit of foot traffic so I doubt the books sat around long. =)

Released as part of the 2004 BC Convention/Anniversary Challenge!
