Gaiman is an undeniably gifted storyteller. This children's book is utter silliness, but it is the kind of utter silliness that pulls you right in and won't let you go. Enjoyable!
The physical book is itself gorgeous -- a hardcover that is richly illustrated with Skottie Young's pen and ink line drawings.

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:
This book is on its way to melydia as a RABCK. I hope she enjoys it! :)
Received this wishlist RABCK in the mail yesterday. Thank you so much! I've been wanting to read this one for a while.
The children have no milk for their breakfast cereal, so their father runs to the store to fetch some. He takes a very long time to return, and his explanation of where he's been is memorable, to say the least. The illustrations are fun, reminding me a bit of Shel Silverstein though I can't put my finger on why. All in all a charming book. This would be a fun one to read aloud.
Taking to the BCinDC holiday party.
I picked up this book at the last BCinDC meetup. This was me: A NEIL GAIMAN BOOK I HAVE NOT READ! *GRAB*
PS- The illustrator is one I have LONG admired for his Oz graphic novel illustrations. So I'm especially glad to have a chance to read this.

I am trying very hard to make a dent in Mountain Range To Be Read in my house, and this is one I read earlier this year finally, despite having acquired it many, many moons ago.
I adore Neil Gaiman's humorous storytelling, and I'm SUCH a fan of Skottie Young (especially the graphic novel versions of Oz stories he illustrated). So this was a complete pleasure for me from start to finish. It was definitely a silly dad joke taken to the extreme!

So excited that KateKintail brought this to meet-up today! I saw it on her Goodreads page and figured she was ear-reading it (Neil Gaiman telling you a story is always a good thing!). To find it in physical form was a joy. I probably won't wait very long to read this.
I was passed this book today by a friend. When I got home, I picked it up just to peek at it. On page 78 I got a text informing me I was late for dinner. I finished the book just now when I got home from dinner. It was very hard to put down because things just kept happening.
My father was a spinner of yarns, a teller of tall tales (his voyages with his buddy Chris Columbus in search of a McDonald's were legendary), and, as my toddler niece once said, "Silly." The dad in this story has him beat. He goes out to buy milk and ends up saving the world from aliens and a dinosaur scientist in a hot air balloon time machine from a volcano, and sings songs with space police, and walks the plank of a pirate ship, and . . .He brings the milk home to his children and explains why it took him so long.

I wasn't sure what to do with this book when I finished it -- people I know who would want to read it have read it before me. I thought of mailing it to my niece, but she hasn't read the last dozen books I sent her, so . . . But I found out that there is a very good chance I will be able to attend the Unconvention in New Zealand in October and this book is on Kiwiinengland's wishlist. Best of all, I will be travelling with my niece, who can surely manage to get it read on a 24-hour plane trip.

Does it ramble? Yes. Did it remind me of the fantastical stories my Grandpa and Father used to spin when I was little? Also yes.
Cute book, definitely recommended

A fabulous Wishlist gift handed over in person when 6of8, bludanzer22 and I met up for hot chocolates, beach strolling, and bus exploring on Waiheke Island.
A quick read which I greatly enjoyed, especially the scientific thinking presented by the Professor.

Read this on the bus to work yesterday afternoon - an absolutely delightful book with amazing illustrations.
I have some friends who I think would enjoy this before I figure out where it will be heading next.
