Thanks , disceverylover, for recommending such a delightful novel!
Wonder is the story of August Pullman, a young boy with hideous facial deformity due to genetic accident. At an early age he endures seemingly endless surgeries. He is home-schooled by his mother.
The novel really begins when Auggie agrees to attend a regular school in the environs of NYC with 'normal' kids. This is a page-turner, a story of family relationships and stresses, the dynamics of bullying, the nature of friendship, and not least the power of human kindness.
It's a book that keeps giving. The climax is a tad Hollywood, but that's forgivable. I wish I had shares in the movie rights. It's going to be a multiple Oscar job!
