Cool, a Neal Stephenson novel which isn't a 'doorstopper' and which is about a subject I'm really interested in!

Amazon.com Review
Believe it or not, some readers find "Zodiac" even more fun than Neal Stephenson's defining 1990s cyberpunk novel, "Snow Crash". "Zodiac" is set in Boston, and hero Sangamon Taylor (S. T.) ironically describes his hilarious exploits in the first person. S. T. is a modern superhero, a self-proclaimed Toxic Spiderman. With stealth, spunk, and the backing of GEE (a non-profit environmental group) as his weapons, S. T. chases down the bad guys with James Bond-like Zen.
Cruising Boston Harbor with lab tests and scuba gear, S. T. rides in with the ecosystem cavalry on his 40-horsepower Zodiac raft. His job of tracking down poisonous runoff and embarrassing the powerful corporations who caused them becomes more sticky than usual; run-ins with a gang of satanic rock fans, a deranged geneticist, and a mysterious PCB contamination that may or may not be man-made--plus a falling-out with his competent ("I adore stress") girlfriend--all complicate his mission.
Stephenson/S. T.'s irreverent, facetious, esprit-filled voice make this near-future tale a joy to read.

A very interesting read with lots and lots of action. However, the slang is a bit difficult to follow, and near the end the book accelerated so fast that it was difficult to keep track of everyone.
The chemical polution topic was most interested. Somehow I do hope that it's more fiction than reality, but all too well I know that reality can be as harsh as fiction. Making money is more important than saving the environment, and for that we need people like ST and GEE. I hope their counterparts in real life will maintain pestering the big companies.

So I didn't find this book somebody else did thinking that somebody left his/her book. From that point on it was passed around quite a bit until it landed with a group of people waiting on the tram. Once we figured out what the deal was with this book it was passed around the entire group again and it finally landed in my tired hands (I was a gopher at animecon the event where it was left) and I put it in my suitcase and took it home, where I have put it on the bottom of my yet to read list so before this book is going to travel again it has to wait quite a while, but it will eventually be read and left somewhere completely different and hopefully somewhere unexpected.

Are you sure you want to delete this item? It cannot be undone.
