When Savannah Lynn Curtis comes into his life, John Tyree knows he is ready to turn over a new leaf. An angry rebel, he had enlisted in the army after high school, not knowing what else to do. Then, during a furlough, he meets Savannah, the girl of his dreams. the attraction is mutual and quickly grows into the kind of love that leaves Savannah vowing to wait for John while he finishes his tour of duty. But neither can foresee 9/11 is a bout to change the wordl. Like so many proud men and women, John must choose between love and country. Now when he finally returns to North Carolina, John will discover how love can transform us in ways we never could have imagined.

To my mind, it was a typical Nicholas Sparks story, that deals with love and its issues around it. the end was a little bit trashy, however he could not find an end that was not trashy: if Savannah and John came together it would be a typical Happy end, but not realistic. the end as in the book, that John sells his father's only meaning in life, the coin collection, was also trashy, especially as it saved Tim's life against cancer... it was nicely told, however I was not completely sure, whether the bottom line "true love will always win against greed and selfishness" is really true.
It was a nice audiobook to follow while in Andover this year and I will surely remember that as a special book therefore...
