Another Jodi Picoult book. Her stories are of human interest and something usually out of the news. Lets see how this one goes...
From the book back....Sterling is an ordinary New Hampshire town where nothing ever happens - until the day its complacency is shattered by an act of violence. Josie Cormier, the daughter of the judge sitting on the case, shoul be the state's best witness, but she can't remember what happened before her very own eyes - or can she? As the trial progresses, fault lines between the high school and the adult community begin to show - destroying the closest of friendships and families. Nineteen Minutes asks what it means to be different in our society, who has the right to judge someone else, and wheter anyone is ever really who they seem to be......

Okay another Picoult book that I loved! I have decided that I really love books that delve into current day morals and ethics. Picoult gives both sides of the story so that there is food for thought.
This book, in turns out, is about the 19 minutes it takes for a boy to shoot up a school, Columbine style. I didn't get that at all in the cover... Picoult flashes back to the story of the boys youth and then to "the event" and the aftermath. It really makes you think... A story that all highschool kids should read - about bullying and the effects that it has on everyone. About status and popularity.....
The one thing I was not thrilled with was the ending with Josie. It was sort of an afterthought that gets mentioned. In all the craziness that was going on, I would have thought it would have been different but maybe I want a fairy tale ending that isn't realistic. Please read this book so we can discuss!

Taking to Joshua tree cafe for monthly bookcrossing meeting to pass on to a new crosser.
I am a week late, but I got this at the June meeting!
Oops - I forgot to write about this first. Maybe shouldn't have picked it during report cards as it had some heavy thoughts in it. I wonder which of my students could be in this situation. Kept me reading and I wasn't expecting the twist.
I am taking this to be either taken to another good home or to be left on the bookshelf at the Joshua Tree Cafe on Sat.

Picked this up at today's meeting. I guess I am doing lots of reading this month...
Taking this to the Calgary meetup today to be handed off to the next reader, I'm not really feeling anything not happy/fluffy at the moment and that is not really Picoult's style. Maybe another time.

Picked up at the September Calgary meetup. We had 13 BookCrossers and lots of books. As always it was wonderful to see everyone. This one has been added to the shelf.
This was a very thought provoking read, as is all of Jodi Picoult's books. This one is about a school shooting. Looking at different points of view really made this violent act all the more alarming. Really everyone was a victim from the shooter to his family, classmates...

Taking this book to the November meeting of the Calgary BookCrossers. It should find a new home there.

Anyone who has experienced any type of bullying in this story can relate to what Peter goes through at the hands of his classmates for 12 years. An interesting book about the dynamics of family and high-school and compassion for the victims of bullying. Returning at next meeting.
Haven' t read the book yet, just picked it up this past weekend
This was given to me to get back into the group.
I will bring this to one of our summer meet ups so that it can go home with a new reader.
Oops I have read it.
Had a lovely visit in rureading's yard to drop off books and pick up some new ones and bring some back. Lovely visit on a sunny but slightly cool day.
