1998 Scholastic small collectors' hardcover in the Dear America Series. I found this copy some months ago in the free books pile on the porch of Montclair Library.

Edit August 15, 2022: This was really terrific, although it is for young adult readers. The setup, of a young, working class orphan girl adventuring across the ocean with a wealthy elite older woman as her companion is very well told, although I skimmed a bit and missed the reason behind it. But the scenes in that first half give us a good feel for these lives in difficulty. And the interplay between the two female leads is often amusing. The disaster itself pulls few punches, and is interesting in detail. The author did an excellent job of research for the extra material at the end, with photos and complete timeline. I had to check a few times to be sure I was reading a work of fiction, and not a true account. I currently have this ranked at #214 on my ranked list of best-read books lately.

Aside from loving shared books, my main passion in life is supporting the human rights work of my good friend, Anni Cyrus. đź’– đź’– Her life story of survival as a childhood refugee is astounding, and quite moving!

The Big Tech cabal is all about shadow-banning narrative agenda suppression against real freedom truth-tellers, but please look her up anyway on Google, DuckDuckGo, and YouTube, etc., and make a compassionate judgment. You can also follow her on Facebook and Instagram, among other platforms.
