This is a minor title in the Colin Wilson works but it has an interesting origin. It is the result of a conversation with A. E. Van Vogt on the later's classic vampire short story Asylum.

I left the book in a stairway. While I was leaving it, a moment later, I passed by a man who went promptly into said stairway. I couldn't resist and walked back to the stairway entrance. Through a small glass vista I glanced at the spot where I had just left the book. It was no longer there. All in all, this book will have tasted freedom during no more than 30 seconds... until next release, I hope...
