I bought this today for 50p at St Thomas' Hospital. I'm not sure if I have a copy already. What I do know is that I started to read it years ago, and it fell out of by bicycle basket and I lost it one day on my way to work.

What a brilliant, sinister, well-written novel! It took me a while to get into it, but then it turned out to be quite a pageturner. Certainly deserves its place on the Booker list of 1983. And it's one of the 1001 books you must read before you die.
