Just received this in the mail. Thanks! Will journal again once I have finished reading it.
Finished this excellent book, now on its way to mrbrant in California.
Got in the mail yesterday. Currently reading two books, if I'm not done with them in two weeks I'll put them on hold and start reading Girl With Pearl Earring so the bookring isn't paused too long.
I'm looking forward to it.

I received it in the mail yesterday. I have a few pages left of my current read, and then I'll dive right into it.
I just finished it today. What a lovely story, and such an intriguing concept. Every time Griet was described I found myself looking at the painting on the cover over and over again as if that was really her. This book really gave that painting a wonderful story, and it felt so real! Thanks for organizing this book ring!
I've PMed sqdancer, and will be sending the book out as soon as I receive her mailing info.

Thanks, will read this when I'm in England :)
Wow, I really enjoyed this book. It is beautifully written and full of small insights into what you can imagine life would be like in Delft in those times. I got very caught up in Griet's life. Thank you again!

The book arrived safely today.
I will try to read it as quickly as possible, but I am in the middle of a school term and (unfortunately) school work comes before reading!
Thanks for sending this along.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. As some of the previous journal entries said, I also found myself continuously looking at the cover to get a better picture of Griet, and see what the painting would look like.
It was such a simple story, yet it was quite a page turner. I was very interested to learn what would happen to Griet and her master.
The description of the 8 pointed star near the end of the book, with 8 different choices really helped close the story.
Thank you for sharing!
I'm waiting to hear back from the next person in line so I can send the book off to them.

This book is going to make a short detour to aceofhearts while I continue to try and reach Hathyia.
received from Hoserlauren
What a wonderful story!! I really liked all the details of life in Delft. I too found myself returning to the front cover as I was immersing myself in seventeenth century Holland. All the details and the star with all the choices made for a truly great story
Released at the Oakville bookcrossing meeting!
Handed to me at the Oakville meetup and told it was a wonderful book I should read! So I will :)
Thanks.
Thanks.
Wow, this book has a long history. I'm starting it tonight and am already trying to find another home for it so it can continue its bookcrossing story.
I really enjoyed this novel. I couldn't put it down once I started reading it. The characters are well drawn, the sense of history and the feeling of art and colour are so well defined that I felt as if I knew these people and I could feel Griet's pain and joy.
Sending to breeze144 so it can continue its bookcrossing travels.
Enjoy!
Enjoy!
Arrived here today!
What a great author! This is the second Chevalier book I've read and I'm looking forward to reading more. I love her ability to re-create history through a single character...
Will be sending along to Niksu as part of a bookrelay soon!

This came today. Thanks Breeze144 for sending!
I read this during the Christmas days when wanted something lighter. This was first Chevalier's book for me and I liked a lot! I have participated to The Virgin Blue-ring which is touring in Finland at the moment and added the rest of the books to my wishlist. Can't wait to read more of her books!
Good choice too, Alejanda:) Sending it forward today. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
The book arrived today. Thanks Niksu! This cover is very beutifull.
Wonderfull book! I love history, so I really enjoyed this book. Thanks a lot Niksu and others!

Still haven't read this but just wanted to report that I covered this book with plastic today while watching tv. It will give the book a few more adventures to make, otherwise it would be torn apart too easily.
Journal Entry 39 by Savotar from Turku, Varsinais-Suomi / Egentliga Finland Finland on Sunday, November 11, 2007
I tried to read this but I was so disappointed because the atmosphere in the first 20 pages didnt take me to the 17th century. The narration was too modern. So I will release this to new readers as soon as I get a chance. I'm sure someone will like this book. :)

Sobergirl raves about this book.
I was going to take this to Tallinn with me - to read and then release there - but when I noticed how well journalled this book is I realised I want to do a controlled release or RABCK so it will continue it's great journey!
So I'll postpone reading this until February

Have offered this as a RABCK with strings here in Finland once I've read it.
Chirel (in Tampere) was the first to shout out - and promised to release it when she's read it (and keep this lovely chain of readers going)
But I have to read it first. Expect to release it towards the end of February.

I started reading this (as planned) on the journey home from Tallinn - and I'm loving it.
I have one assignment this session (family counselling) where I have to draw a genogramme of a family from a novel and then offer them help and pastoral care. I'm thinking that I'll use the Catholic family from this novel - but first I have to see how their characters develop and the plot works out.
Really happy to be reading this though.

I loved this book. It's so well written and it was a beautiful look into life in the 1660s in Holland, both for a maid in her new household and the family from which she came. I found the Catholic v Protestant differenes very interesting - but mostly the family dynamics.
At seminary I have to write a paper about family relations using a novel - and so I'll use this book as the basis for my paper. Once done, I'll forward this - as a couple of people in Finland would like to read it - it's lovely to have been part in reading such a well travelled (and well-cared for) book.
Thanks again Savotar!

I finished writing my assignment using the Vermeer family as a case study. Facincating to look at this from a family counselling point of view.
I've offered this as "a RABCK with strings" and its been taken up by Chirel and JonAsp. Since the latter lives in Kaarina I'm trying to meet up with her next week, otherwise this will head its way up to Tampere to Chirel.
Highly recommended.

Thank you, seethrouhgfaith, for giving me the opportunity to read this book. I already started reading it yesterday evening and I already love the colours.

I read the book and I still love the colours and the light Tracy Chevalier painted with her writing.
I'm sorry, Chirel that you have had to wait this long for the book.

The book arrived, thank you JonAsp and Seethroughfaith.
I wonder if I've read the book already (in finnish) or if it was something with a similar idea; that is Vermeer family and art. I'm too tired to figure this out now, but I guess I'll know when I start reading the book.
I wonder what the 'strings attached' were... I really can't remember anymore ;)
Oh and it's just lovely to receive a book set in the Netherlands, since I was there last summer.

I got this book from Chirel some time ago. As I have one copy already on my shelf I try to find a new reader for this one.
This book will soon travel to Joensuu, Finland. Happy reading :)

Thank you very much for this well-travelled book! I've heard about this book so many times that it is about time I read it myself! :)
