I bought this book as a result of hearing an interview with Cathy Kelly on the radio. She was talking about coping with a parent who has Alzheimers, and how she had written a novel about it. Well in some ways she has, but only tangentally. This is one of those classic "feel-good" women's books, using the well tried formula of three different women who are friends (in this case a rather artificial device) and tells a little love story about each woman and her life. They are always women who are un-appreciated by their families and the men in their lives. They cast off or are cast off, suffer alone and misunderstood, fall for the wrong bloke who lets them down before discovering that true love was right beside them in the shape of a neighbour, boss, colleague or friend. The scales fall from their eyes and all three end up happy and fulfilled.
Not my thing at all, but I suppose it is good to check out the genre from time to time and it whiled away a long wait in Xray whilst confined to a wheelchair.
