One of Kim Stanley Robinson's earlier works, this is definitely worth a read. Though the ending was a bit of a letdown to me, it really follows some interesting ideas, about how events can get lost in time, and the history we know is not necessarily what actually happened. Themes crop up here that will appear in more fully-fledged form in his later works, namely the Mars trilogy. Much of the book is set on Mars, and descriptions of the bloody revolution there are very similar to that in Red Mars.
