***NOTE***

While I am a writer who writes long when the spirit, and the subject, moves him you, dear fellow Journaler, aren't required to put in anything but the bare minimum ( Where Caught, where re-released, or whatever other fate you have in store for the book, even a brief review ) ...BUT longer is permissible, and encouraged, IF you are so moved to do so by my own such entries.

***END NOTE***

A Hardcover 1st Edition, from 1965, that was a Book of the Month Club Selection.

The jacket has a little tear, but other than that the book is in excellent condition. ( Click on Picture to Enlarge! )

Includes wonderful drawings by Rachel S. Horne

FROM THE COVER:

"In the natural behavior of the other animals we discover much about ourselves: Our social life and play, our passions and aggressions, our patterns of courtship, parenthood, and sex."

Sally Carrighar (1895–1985) was a famous American naturalist and writer.

She was well known for her series of nature books chronicling the lives of wild animals.

Apparently humans were often absent from these tales.

One of her books, One Day at Teton Marsh, was developed into a television movie by Walt Disney.

Rescued on 5/27/07 from the Orange County Public Library, Tustin Branch, at the Friends of the Tustin Library Book Sale in their Book Store in the Library ( It was open 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday for members only, and open to the public from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday ).

I set out, around noon, for a lunch at a nice little Mexican Restuarant, and an hour of perusing the Sunday Orange County Register, with a plan for another hour or so of scoping out old town Santa Ana for a couple of spots to Release Books into the Wild.

In reading the paper I learned of this $2 per bag sale.

This, of course, called for an immediate change of plans! ;-D

I hopped a bus, and sallied forth!

I had no hope of finding anything worth saving, considerring Friends of the Library members had 1st dibs, on 2 rooms of books, for 3 hours ahead of everyone else.

Apparently most folks had their own ideas of what was worth stuffing into their plastic bags, and it did not include many great books born before 1960, or 1975, for that matter. ;-D

I snagged 47 books, in 3 bags, and came away with some fascinating finds, many of them older than I am.

I told a couple of other shoppers about BookCrossing, and maybe they will be inspired to join. ;-D

I did not have my huge Red BookCrossing Tote, so prevailed upon the nice Lil' Old Lady Volunteer to allow me to double bag since I would have to walk 2 blocks to the Bus Stop, and then 2 blocks home, carrying what turned out to be 4 bags. ;-D

As I was getting ready to leave, 15 minutes before they were going to close, and explaining to the nice lady about BookCrossing, a man piped up in recognition, and I discovered that this latecomer to the sale was none other than Catskill-eagle! ;-D

He provided a nifty little flyer, and a BookCrossing Bookmarker, explaining about BookCrossing, that I gave the lady. ;-D

Journal Entry 2 by rem_LJB-550032 at Malibu Canyon Rd.- At The Tunnel in Malibu, California USA on Saturday, August 4, 2007

Released 16 yrs ago (8/5/2007 UTC) at Malibu Canyon Rd.- At The Tunnel in Malibu, California USA

WILD RELEASE NOTES:

RELEASE NOTES:

Today I revisited a 66 mile bike ride I 1st took in 2002, along Pacific Coast Highway, and in the mountains above it, in the Malibu area along the SoCal Coast, north of Santa Monica.

I did it to finally add photos to a story I wrote for my BikeBlog ( I'll post a link to an updated story, with pictures, later in the week. ).

I've taken the opportunity to do some truly "Wild" Releases. ;-D

This is #4.

The Tunnel is about halfway up the road to Mulholland Highway.

I Released the book, along the side of the road, at the turn-off just before the northbound entrance.

I took a rock, and used it to prop the book up so the image on the bag could be seen.( Click on Picture to Enlarge! ) ;-D

The hope is that a cyclist, or person on foot, if not someone who pulled off the road, will spot the book.

It was 945am. ;-D
