Great reading. I've also read and loved Susan Orlean's books "Rin Tin Tin" and "The Library Book"

"The Orchid Thief" is about a costly human obsession that started in earnest in the Victorian era but was an obsession hundreds of years before that in China. This book is about a Florida man and the illegal orchid trade in modren times. This book is well written and researched.

"The Orchid Thief is a 1998 non-fiction book by American journalist Susan Orlean, based on her investigation of the 1994 arrest of horticulturist John Laroche and a group of Seminoles in south Florida for poaching rare orchids in the Fakahatchee Strand State Preserve."- Wikipedia

This book was also made into a movie starring Meryl Streep, Nicholas Cage & Chis Cooper. The movie varies from the book with a fictional "love" interest/ relationship between the main characters. That's Hollywood for you...

I also recommend the books "The Tulip" by Anna Pavord and "Tulipomania" by Mike Dash.
