I got this ex-library hardcover from a local Savers thrift shop, taking advantage of discount-for-seniors day. It's a novel inspired by the all-too-true experiences of young women who were kidnapped by Boko Haram in Nigeria in 2014. It unfolds from the viewpoint of one girl, framed in small snippets as time passes. Some girls escape, some die - and many are forcibly married to members of the terrorist group, with some of those buying into their new life while others do their best to go along until they can find a way to escape. Harrowing, all the more so as many of the girls taken in 2014 are still missing...

The afterword by Viviana Mazza describes the kidnapping and other aspects of the Boko Haram activity, as well as the process by which the surviving girls' experiences were gathered - well worth reading.
