I put this to the top of the book mountain and read it yesterday in readyness for the Christmas packages or the bookbox.
A good read some stories were more enjoyable than others, I really enjoyed A Traditional Christmas, Cinders and The Price of Light.

Ten mystery stories set, as the title would suggest, round the festive season. Some of them seemed familiar to me but I can't find this book listed on my shelves (if I'd read this book it would definitely been on my goodreads shelf as it wasn’t published 'til 2016) so am wondering if some have appeared in other publications. As ever they were of mixed appeal but in this case I liked the majority of them.

The Necklace of Pearls – Dorothy L. Sayers
This seemed very familiar although while I recalled what had happened to the pearls in question, I couldn't remember who had stolen them – though the clues were there! A good short mystery.

The Name on the Window – Edmund Crispin
A tale of a murder which is solved by two friends discussing it. It was okay but I always feel this sort of ending is a bit of a cop out.

A Traditional Christmas – Val McDermid
An interesting little tale with Mother Nature giving it a nice little twist.

The Adventure of the Blue Carbuncle – Arthur Conan Doyle
I'm not really a fan of Sherlock Holmes but this was okay. I didn't need Holmes' powers of deduction to solve it….or maybe I've read it before!

The Invisible Man – G. K. Chesterton
A rather odd but likeable story featuring Father Brown. It had rather an annoying ending which left me curious to know what was said!

Cinders – Ian Rankin
I haven't liked the books I've read by Rankin & this has done nothing to change my mind about him.

Death on the Air – Ngaio Marsh: Another one that rang a bell. I felt this one was also a bit of a cop out as the murder wasn't really solved as the killer confesses all in a letter.

Persons or Things Unknown – Carter Dickson
I liked this one with it's slightly ghostly vibe. This involved solving a murder from long ago by reading a diary. Once again there's a nice little twist to it.

The Case is Altered – Margery Allingham
I just couldn't get into this & got so tired of reading the phrase "the girl with the brandy-ball eyes"

The Price of Light – Ellis Peters
A Cadfael mystery & one that I really enjoyed.
