Traveling Mercies

One of many books that I recently acquired for the purposes of sharing it with others.

I have enjoyed other books by Anne Lamott that I have read and one of the podcasts I listen to cites her regularly as a source of wisdom. That made picking this book to read a no-brainer, even though my personal reading has slowed down quite noticeably since I got bit by the quilting bug. It helps that she talks a lot about creativity and personal expression in her books, which is what quilting currently is for me. Still, it took me longer to finish this book than I am used to and I feel a bit of guilt about that. I did enjoy it very much, though.
This book includes all sorts of things that I don't recall encountering in her other books -- stories of her childhood, her addiction and recovery, the birth of her son during a time of struggle, the deaths of many people that she loves. There are multiple little lessons and quotes that I have underlined and could try to go back and recapture for this comment. But I think there is one that sums up the rest of the book beautifully, so I will confine myself to that. "This is the most profound spiritual truth I know: that even when we're sure that love can't conquer all, it seems to anyway."

Brought home from today's BC in DC gathering. I thought I had read Bird by Bird by this author, but it turns out I had it mixed up with something else. Regardless, I'm looking forward to reading this and passing it on to my mom.
