Kerr's story of the way Germany gradually changed around her family and their narrow escape from the Nazis cannot fail to touch. They have to leave nearly everything behind including Anna's beloved pink rabbit. This is the true story of Kerr's childhood and really brings home what people lived through.

OMG what an escape! To think, if that one policeman hadn't let her father know, they never would have left Germany on time, Judith Kerr would never have been a writer nor had children, nor grandchildren and on it goes... This book and reminder of a terrible period of world history makes you stop and think about your own actions in life and the consequences your actions or inactions can make. I wonder what happened to that German policeman who believed in her father's work. I hope and pray that he lived to tell his own tale. I'm glad to have read this child's experience - it gives a different view on that time, that is very precious.

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:
On its way to jkap for an International Wishlist tag! I hope you enjoy this read, especially being so close to where all the action was :D
the Book arrived safely here in Switzerland today, along with a sweet postcard :) thank you so much for sending me this!
What a lovely book.
I found this to be a completely different perspective of these historical events.
This book accidentally stayed in my backpack while hiking crypt lake back in Canada, so it sustained some wetness during a hail storm we got caught up in.
Anyways, would recommend this book to readers of all ages :)
