I totally get Sheila's thing with wanting the new car. You can see their life unravelling because Susheela didn't share her secret with what happened that night. It all comes down to that, IMHO!

I did enjoy it. It was a while ago that I read it, and I remember NOT disliking it, although I think I liked the first half more than the second.
