This is my first read of 2017 and I'm enjoying it so far. No snow in this part of the UK, it has been a very strange and warm winter so far.

Happy New Year everyone, sorry its a tad late :) I've just been nosing around Goodreads and found the My Year in Books page for 2016. Has anyone else checked theirs? It's strangely interesting, seeing the average length…

I've been absent for a while, mainly because NaNoWriMo ate my life in November and I didn't have much reading time. However, I did manage to finish The Ashes of London by Andrew Taylor. I'm still reading Sweet Caress …

I've been reading Cruachan by Marian Palllister, ostensibly for research purposes but I did read it all so I'm counting it lol. Still reading Sweet Caress by William Boyd

It's good so far. Also reading A Sting in the Tale by Dave Goulson, which is about bees.

It has the surreal elements that are typical of Murakami but its very short so you'll get a chance to decide if you like it without reading 300 pages. Aside from The Strange Library, my favourite one is Kafka on the …

Stephen King's memoir of his writing life. Quite enjoyable.

I enjoyed reading On Writing by Stephen King, even though he's not an author I've read much of. Now reading Sweet Caress by William Boyd.

I've read In the Month of the Midnight Sun, which was a really good read. I'm reading several at the moment but the one I'm focussed on most is On Writing by Stephen King.

This is the author's second novel, which I enjoyed just as much as the first.

I'm enjoying it so far but it is reminding me of something else I've read. Not sure what though....

Almost finished this; I've enjoyed it as much as Wolf Winter. There's something compelling about what seems like a simple story. It''ll be going back to the library this week. On kindle I'm reading After Me Comes the…

I came across this author by chance last year, or maybe this year....either way her writing is excellent. This is her second novel, set later than the first but with the same setting - Blackasen, a sinister lonely mounta…

[[ By Scarlett Thomas. Not far in yet, but enjoying it a lot (really tempted to take out my book at work and read instead - feeling very much like monday, or actually tuesday :p) ]] I really enjoyed reading this one.…

Are you enjoying The Haunting? I haven't read it but I did read We Have Always Lived in the Castle recently - I thought it was interestingly subtle in how creepy it was.

A collection of essays/columns written by the astrophysicist. A really engaging read.

Ok, so I gave up on Infinite Ground, it just wasn't for me. I've finished Death by Black Hole by Neil deGrasse Tyson, which was a very interesting read. I'd like to learn more about quantum physics after reading it. Not …

I've just read Commonwealth by Ann Patchett which, like most of what she writes, is a thoroughly compelling read. I'm only 8 away from my annual aim of 50 books as I read Barkskins by Annie Proulx in between SIYs (re…

Its so different from anything else I've picked up recently. I'm looking forward to reading it.

As usual, Ann Patchett delivers a genuinely thought provoking and compelling story. I was surprised by how much was packed into a mere 300 pages without feeling bogged down. I'll be thinking about this one for a while.

This is a great read, and must have taken a great deal of planning and research to accomplish. It follows the descendents of two frenchmen arriving in New France in the 17th century, their place in the timber industry an…

The latest installment in the Lamora story. Not as compelling as the first two books but not bad either.

Very pleased to find this at the local library. Someone has since reserved it so I'm being nice and reading it as fast as I can. Not very far in but enjoying it so far. Patchett's writing always seems to roll along easil…
